Okay, so Spring/Summer is here and you feel you no longer need to heat your massage oils or creams. WRONG. I think even in the warmest weather you need to take the cold edge off those creams for your client’s sake…..feels so much better to have warm lotion put on bare skin. Ask them what they think, bet I’m right!

Well, looks like the holidays are upon us, and that can be a wonderful time for the massage/body work industry……gift certificates!!!! Make sure you know the laws of your state, as they do vary greatly as to expiration dates, return polices, and other important details, before selling. Gift Certificates can be a wonderful sorce of income(check my site for an easy way to purchase/sell them) at this time of year, but remember that when it comes time to redeem them…..you can feel like you are working for free, so if it is at all possible, try to put the income from the certificates in a separate account and don’t use it til the certificate is redeemed. This is especially nice if you are doing alot of sessions in one day/week for gift certificate redemption all at once or all at the same time. Just a tip!

I found this video on Youtube(not me), and although it may not not be the most professionally produced video, I think she has some good points about deep tissue therapy both for the client and therapist…..and therapists, note how she uses her arms to work the traps and mid back! Great way to save your hands and thumbs from over-use in deep work. Just thought I’d pass it along.

As each week in 2009 goes by, I think we are all getting more and more fearful about our employment, businesses, and careers. I have found my massage business to be “steady” …it hasn’t changed alot since 2008 and I haven’t really lost any clients, so far this year. I feel not making any changes in your business is the key, stay steady, keep current pricing the same. Others may feel differently, but I would rather keep my clients at a lower rate than raise my rates and loose them or the frequency they come in ……again, best of luck and peace to all.
